Stubborn Bathtub Clog Cleared with a Ridgid K-46

A slow-draining tub is one of those problems people put off way too long. It starts as a minor annoyance - water pooling around your feet - and before you know it, you're standing in several inches of backed-up water every time you shower. That's exactly the kind of situation we walked into on this one.

We ran our Ridgid K-46 drain machine down through the tub drain to break up and pull out the clog. The K-46 is a drum auger built specifically for tub and sink drains - it's not something you'd find at a hardware store, and it's a lot more effective than the plastic hair-snag tools most people try first. When a clog is deep in the line and packed tight with hair and buildup, this is the tool that actually gets it done.

What came out was a dense tangle of hair and debris that had been accumulating in the line. That kind of buildup doesn't happen overnight, and it's not going anywhere on its own. Once we cleared it out, we ran water to confirm the drain was flowing freely before wrapping up. Water moving fast and clean - that's what we're after.

Here's the thing about slow tub drains: they almost never fix themselves. What starts as sluggish drainage usually turns into a full blockage over time, and a full blockage can start putting pressure on other parts of your plumbing. Catching it at the slow-drain stage is almost always cheaper and easier than waiting until it's completely stopped up.
